Petaluma woman trying to stop her runaway car suffers fatal injuries

A woman in Petaluma was run over by her own car and died of her injuries, police said.

In the accident on Friday, the Toyota Highlander, with nobody inside, rolled down her home’s driveway and onto the sloping Glen Eagle Drive.

“The victim attempted to give chase, fell to the ground and was run over and became trapped,” the Petaluma Police Department said.

She was conscious and alert when rescue personnel removed her from under the SUV, but she later died at a hospital.

On Tuesday, the Sonoma County sheriff’s office identified her as Mitra Khazal, 72.

Glen Eagle Drive is a 10-house cul-de-sac off Country Club Drive, near the Petaluma Country Club.
