OAKLAND — A person was fatally shot Wednesday night in an East Oakland neighborhood, authorities said.
Shortly before 9:30 pm, officers responded to reports of ShotSpotter activity in the 1800 block of 89th Avenue in the city’s Webster neighborhood, police said.
When officers arrived, they found a vehicle struck by gunfire, as well as a person nearby in the 8800 block of Birch Street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite emergency life-saving measures by officers and paramedics who also responded, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting marks the 44th homicide investigated by Oakland police so far this year.
