Man shot to death near Iron Triangle neighborhood

RICHMOND — A San Pablo man died Saturday night after gunshots rang out just outside the Iron Triangle section of the city, police said.

Officers found 31-year-old Juan Alberto Martinez down with a gunshot wound in his upper torso when they responded to the 1400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue about 10 pm, Richmond police Sgt. Aaron Pomeroy said. Martinez died at the scene despite the efforts from medical personnel.

The homicide is the 11th one investigated by the Richmond Police Department this year. The Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office also has investigated one homicide in unincorporated North Richmond.

According to Pomeroy, detectives spoke to witnesses but received very little information from them. Police did not say what they believe the motive to be.

They have not identified any suspects.

Homicide Det. Mauricio Canelo is working the case and police urged anyone with information to contact him at 510-620-6860. Anonymous tips can be left at 510-307-8177.
