Driver dies, passenger injured in two-vehicle collision

SAN LEANDRO — A woman died and a man was hospitalized Tuesday after a collision along a roadway in the city’s light-industrial corridor, authorities said.

Just after 4:10 pm, police responded to a report of the collision on Eden Road at Doolittle Drive, San Leandro police Lt. Matthew Barajas said.

When officers arrived, they found a black two-door Honda Civic that had struck a red tractor-trailer truck with a black cargo bed in the 2200 block of Eden.

The Honda’s driver, an unresponsive woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Honda was taken to a hospital and was expected to survive.

The tractor-trailer’s driver, who was not injured, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, who preliminarily found that speed was a collision factor, with the Honda seen driving southbound along Eden shortly before the collision.

“We are all saddened to have learned the woman, in this case, succumbed to her injuries as we keep her and her family in our hearts,” Barajas said.
