A couple was arrested last week on suspicion of abusing and torturing five young relatives who had been living with them for several years, Rialto police announced Tuesday.
The arrest followed an investigation launched by authorities in January after the Rialto Police Department was notified of the abuse, police said. The case was related to another investigation conducted by the Barstow Police Department in August 2021 of allegations the victims had endured abuse for four years while living with their aunt and uncle on the 1000 block of East Jackson Street in Rialto.
The victims — ages 11 to 17 — described to detectives the various forms of physical abuse and torture they had endured, police said. This included branding, strangulation and being shot with pellet guns.
