OAKLAND — A 28-year-old man was shot Thursday evening as he rode a bicycle in West Oakland, authorities said.
The man, who was wounded in the abdomen, underwent surgery at a hospital and was in stable condition, authorities said.
The shooting happened about 5:15 pm Thursday in the 1200 block of 26th Street near Magnolia Street.
Police said the bicyclist, who does not have a permanent address, was shot by someone standing on the street who apparently fled in a waiting vehicle.
After he was shot the wounded man was able to run to a nearby location where police were called. Some shell casings were recovered in the area of the shooting.
Police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting. No arrests have been made.
