This is the final athlete of the week poll for the 2021-22 school year. Candidates for athlete of the week polls in the 2022-23 school year — we will start again in late August/early September — can be nominated at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com.

Kasey Aguinaga, Heritage softball: Senior LHP tossed back-to-back shutouts in NCS playoffs last week, leading Patriots to Division I crown. Threw a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over Vintage in the semifinals, blanked Granada 8-0 on five hits in the championship game. In four NCS games, the Boise State signee was 4-0, 0.56 ERA with 44 strikeouts in 25 IP.
Sophia Asar, Los Altos softball: Sophomore southpaw fired a no-hitter against Piedmont Hills in the CCS D-IV championship game. He Walked three, struck out six in Eagles ‘5-0 win. He Has pitched all but one inning for Los Altos this season. He has a 2.99 ERA and .310 batting average.
Sassie Block, Carlmont softball: Cal State-East Bay commit had two wins and a save as Scots won three tough games to capture the CCS D-III title. Pitched three-hitter in 1-0 win in the semifinals against Soquel, a team that hadn’t been blanked all season. As a hitter, senior OF led Carlmont in the triple crown categories with a .557 BA, 25 RBIs and five home runs.
Braxton Brown, Benicia softball: Junior RHP was 4-0 with three complete games as Panthers rolled to NCS D-II crown. In the championship tilt against Marin Catholic, she pitched a five-hitter and struck out six in Benicia’s 6-1 win. She Belted two homers and a double during the playoffs.
