Ayton’s offer sheet from Pacers helps the Warriors in multiple ways

We’re two weeks in to NBA free agency, and while there have been some big moves already, everyone seems to be Biding Time for Brooklyn.

But now, as the defending champion Warriors wait out whatever happens in the Kevin Durant saga, one potential Western Conference contender heavily linked to Durant just had their world flipped upside down — which could make it a little more likely that Durant returns to the Bay.

Phoenix Suns center and restricted free agent Deandre Ayton has agreed to a maximum contract offer sheet with the Indiana Pacers, according to ESPN. The Pacers apparently got tired of waiting for the Durant-Brooklyn-Phoenix do-si-do and are making the move for Ayton now.

Ayton has not officially signed the sheet yet, so there is a chance that Phoenix and Indiana can work out a sign-and-trade, which could return assets or players back to Phoenix who could be used in a Durant trade. But if Ayton signs the offer sheet, it handcuffs the Suns in a few ways.
