A’s lose 1-0 in front of practically empty Coliseum

After pushing their game time up 3 1/2 hours to avoid heavy rain in the forecast for Wednesday evening, the A’s lost 1-0 to the Orioles on Wednesday afternoon in front of the smallest Coliseum crowd in more than 40 years.

With the game time change, the A’s drew just 2,703 fans a day after a crowd of 3,748 — the smallest excluding years in which crowd sizes were restricted due to COVID since they had 2,443 in a 6-3 win against the Rangers on Sept. 9, 1980. Rickey Henderson stole a base and Mitchell Page homered twice in that game.

Ryan McKenna scored Baltimore’s only run Wednesday on a fielding error by Athletics shortstop Elvis Andrus in the fifth inning.
